A little bit about me and why I love crochet

Hey, my name is Rachel and this is my small space on the internet dedicated to everything crochet. It’s a hobby I’ve been proud of for many years and thought it about time I share some of my knowledge and experiences with other people who love to crochet. I’ve always thought of crochet a bit like magic; making things out of thin air, or in the case, a meagre ball of wool. As cliche as it sounds, and it is, your only limit is your imagination (and the amount of wool you have).

Books and video games

Aside from crochet, I enjoy reading, especially any novel by Stephen King, and I’ve set a goal to read the Lord of the Rings books this year. Last year was the beginning of my dedicated reading journey, and this year I am challenging myself to read one book a month. I also spend a significant amount of time playing online video games with friends. Some of my favourites are Minecraft and Fortnite, and I also play a little D&D on the side. I have combined video games with crochet by making some of my favourite game characters, like some agents from ‘Valorant’ and some characters from ‘The Binding of Isaac’. I crochet what I like and by doing so I open new opportunities to write patterns and explore new ways of engaging with my two favourite hobbies!

Why start now?

As it is the beginning of a new year, I’ve had a sudden and unexplainable urge to start sharing more of the thing I am most passionate about. Over the years I’ve gained a lot of experience and learnt through trial and error through self-taught practices using online resources, like YouTube videos, other crochet blogs and some crochet magazines. Several of my friends have asked on tips and tricks on getting started with crochet but it can seem daunting starting an new hobby when there are so many avenues to go down and so many different techniques to learn. Crochet offers visual progress stitch by stitch, a timeline of your hard work. My main goal is to inspire more people to crochet and stick to it, even when it gets difficult and monotonous. There is no better feeling in crochet than finally holding your finished piece, taking photos and sharing it with family members and friends.

Anyway, enough about me and more about crochet! Check out some of my other blog posts and patterns, and don’t forget to keep crocheting!

Rachel 😊
